ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM

SPRING & SUMMER RESIDENCY
APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

The Space the Sound has been waiting for

SPRING & SUMMER RESIDENCY · APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Sound Space Portal opens its doors to emerging and established practitioners of sacred sound. Offering instrument access, mentorship, and a pathway to public offering with no financial barrier.

THE CALLING

"The instrument found me before I could afford to find it."

All Sacred Sound Artists Anyone for whom sound is not performance but service a path of presence, integration and devotion.

WHO IS THIS FOR

For Those Who
Hear the Frequency

The crystal alchemy singing bowls do not wait for financial readiness. They arrive as a knowing, a pull, a resonance that will not quiet itself no matter how long it is asked to wait. Sound Space Portal understands this arrival. The Residency exists because of it — for those who are ready in every way that matters most.

Crystal Alchemy Bowl Practitioners

Those called to the singing bowls who need instrument access and guided development before certification or personal instrument purchase.

Throat Singers & Overtone Chanters

Voice practitioners working in ancient harmonic traditions seeking dedicated space and a supportive community.

Handpan & Gong Artists

Instrument-based practitioners ready to move from private exploration into grounded public offering.

Sound Space Portal was built on the understanding that the practitioner's path and the practitioner's resources do not always arrive at the same time.

The Residency builds the bridge giving time, instruments, mentorship, and community so that the gap between calling and capacity can be crossed with dignity. Practitioners who work with us through spring and summer emerge in the fall ready to offer sessions of genuine depth and skill to audiences who need them.

THE RESIDENCY

Access Without Barrier

The full Sound Space Portal instrument collection, including complete crystal alchemy singing bowl set, is available to all residents during their scheduled hours. You do not need to own anything to begin.

❋ Intentional Structure

Mentorship That Meets You

Each resident is matched with a senior practitioner in their primary sound tradition. Monthly one-on-one sessions, bi-weekly community circles, and ongoing access to the Sound Space Portal knowledge library accompany the full residency arc.

❋ Expert Facilitation

A Pathway to Public Practice

The residency is preparation for fuller participation in the world. When fall arrives, each graduate steps into a confirmed schedule of regular public sessions at Sound Space Portal building livelihood and presence simultaneously.

❋ A Supportive Space

Community as Field

You are not practicing alone. The cohort (six to eight practitioners per season) becomes a resonant field of mutual support, shared development, and genuine belonging. The community that forms here continues long after the residency closes.

❋ Collaborative Energy

HOW IT WORKS

Your Path through the residency

  • Complete the application with honest answers to eleven questions about your practice, your availability, and where you are heading. No portfolio required. No credentials necessary. We are reading for readiness, not résumé.

  • Within two weeks of your application, you hear from us. If your cohort has a place for you, we schedule an orientation conversation for a chance to meet one another, discuss your path, and answer your questions before the residency begins.

  • You enter the space. You take your scheduled hours. You practice with the instruments, deepen with your mentor, and develop alongside your cohort through the spring and summer months. This is the heart of the work.

  • As fall arrives, you step into your confirmed public session schedule at Sound Space Portal. Your name is in the calendar. Your practice is in the community. What you have developed is ready to be given.

RESULTS WE AIM FOR

What Completion Actually Looks Like

The measure of a residency is not what practitioners know at the end. It is what they are able to give. These are the outcomes Sound Space Portal designs toward practical, embodied, and lasting.

READY TO GIVE YOUR SOUND A QUIET EDGE?

Sound Space Portal Residency
vs. The Alternatives

Most pathways into professional sound practice require either significant financial investment or years of solo development without support.

The Residency offers a third way.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

Henrietta Devine

FOUNDER & LEAD PRACTITIONER, SOUND SPACE PORTAL

"The practitioner's calling and the practitioner's resources do not always arrive at the same time. We built Sound Space Portal to close that gap — to make it possible for people who are genuinely ready to step into this work without waiting for financial circumstances to align."

Henrietta Devine has worked with sacred sound for over 40 years, training in alchemy energy work, piano, flute, percussion, ukulele, yoga vipassana. Sound Space Portal was founded as a living response to the question: what would it look like if access to the instruments and environments of sonic healing were treated as a community commons rather than a private investment?

The Artist Residency is the fullest expression of that answer to date.

As Lead Mentor for the Residency, Henrietta works personally with each cohort as an unconventional teacher and as a practitioner who has walked this path and knows where the light falls and where it does not.

TRUST & PRIVACY

How We Hold
This Space

Confidential Application

Everything you share in your application and in mentorship conversations is held in strict confidence. Your circumstances, your history, and your financial situation are never disclosed outside the core residency team.

No Gatekeeping by Credential

We do not require a portfolio, a prior certification, or a performance history. We review applications for genuine readiness and honest commitment. The only thing that disqualifies an applicant is a lack of authentic intention.

Reciprocal Relationship

Sound Space Portal invests deeply in each resident. In return, we ask for full participation, care of the instruments and space, and for those who go on to build their practice here, a willingness to contribute to future cohorts as capacity grows.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What People Ask Us First

  • No. Instrument access is the heart of what Sound Space Portal provides. You need only to bring yourself and your commitment. The crystal alchemy singing bowls, gongs, handpans, and all instruments in our collection are available during your scheduled residency hours.

  • The residency is offered on a sliding-scale or no-cost basis, determined during the application and review process based on your circumstances. Financial access is a foundational value of this program, not an afterthought. Your situation will be treated with respect and confidence.

  • Full residency participants who complete the program are offered a confirmed schedule of at least two public sessions per month at Sound Space Portal beginning in the fall. This is built into the program, not contingent on an additional audition or approval process.

  • Yes. The residency is open to practitioners at all stages. Established practitioners often find that the dedicated space, community, and instrument access allow them to develop an entirely new dimension of their offering or to deepen work that busy schedules have not allowed them to fully explore.

  • No. This residency is designed in part specifically for those who have not yet been able to access formal certification programs. We recognize readiness through commitment, honest self-knowledge, and genuine intention — not through prior credentials.

  • Each cohort holds six to eight residents. This is intentional — the program is designed for depth, not scale. Every resident receives genuine attention, a matched mentor, and real community. If the spring cohort is at capacity when you apply, we will discuss summer and future timing with you directly.

  • All forms of sacred and ceremonial sound are welcome. If your instrument is not in our current collection, we will discuss access and options during the application process. The community and mentorship dimensions of the residency are valuable regardless of instrument, and we are always expanding what we hold.

  • The minimum is six scheduled practice hours per week, plus bi-weekly community circles and monthly mentorship sessions. Residents who engage more deeply such as taking advantage of open access hours and additional practice time, consistently describe the most significant growth. We ask for genuine commitment, not just presence.
